The inspiration for this design came from the need to create promotional material for an advertising agency. Marcelo Lopes wanted to showcase that premium and luxury designs can also be playful and fun. The package design incorporates a funny mascot that contrasts with the overall sophistication of the package. Additionally, the vibrant colors of Brazilian flora served as inspiration, adding a touch of joy to the design.
What sets the MarceloLopesDesign gift package apart is its emphasis on space reduction for storage purposes. The package is designed to be easily assembled and takes only a few seconds to put together. The high-quality print and the use of various graphic resources enhance both the visual and tactile experience of the package.
The package is made using special paper with impasto and incorporates several graphic techniques such as offset printing, hot stamping printing, embossing, and dry cut. The combination of these techniques allows for the communication of emotions and feelings through both sight and touch.
The MarceloLopesDesign gift package measures 94 cm x 56 cm when open and 32 x 21 x 22 cm when closed. Compared to traditional boxes, this package offers significantly more storage space. Approximately six hundred boxes can be stored in one square meter, compared to the two hundred seventeen boxes that can be stored using traditional packaging.
Throughout the design process, Marcelo Lopes faced several challenges. One of the main challenges was ensuring that the embossing hit perfectly on the hot-stamping print. The volume of the embossed flowers also had to be apparent, which required the development of a new embossing matrix. The package was designed to be highly sensorial, engaging multiple senses.
The MarceloLopesDesign gift package was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2014. This prestigious award recognizes designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life. The package design not only showcases Marcelo Lopes' technical and creative skills but also contributes to a more sustainable future.
Marcelo Lopes and his team, including Ivan Bersati, dedicated two months to the design process and an additional thirty days for production. Extensive research was conducted on different types of paper to achieve the desired metallic effect for the flowers while maintaining vibrant colors. The use of metallic ink was also necessary to achieve the intended result.
